Mini has launched the Cooper S hot hatchback in India at Rs 34.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Powered by a 190bhp twin-turbo engine, the three-door Cooper S is the most powerful hatchback in the Indian market.
The Mini Cooper S is powered by a 2.0-litre four-pot engine, which produces 190bhp and 280Nm of torque. This engine can propel the Cooper S from 0 to 100kmph in just 6.7 seconds and can keep it going up to 233kmph. The power is kept on a leash with the help of a six-speed Steptronic transmission and a rear electronic differential. Despite the exceptional power figures, Mini claims that the Cooper S will return an impressive 18.2kmpl thanks to the lightness of the car and other fuel saving measures.
With several cosmetic and aero updates, the Mini Cooper S not only goes fast, but looks the part too. The Mini Cooper S gets a body kit with flared wheel arches and side skirts, which complement the car’s low-slung stance. The front gets a redesigned black radiator grille with a honeycomb design while the lower bumper gets two large air intakes which aid the engine’s cooling. The bonnet gets an air scoop and the traditional black stripes. The Mini Cooper S also sports a host of the trademark red ‘S’ badges all around, which set it apart from the standard variants.
Personalisation plays a big role in the Mini's appeal, and the Cooper S is no different. The Cooper S is available in no less than 11 paint schemes and a number of other customisation options for the interior trim and decals. Being a niche car, the Mini Cooper S doesn’t really have any competition in the Indian market, though, for the same amount of money, you can also get a Volvo V40 Cross Country.
