For the first time, the 2016 Mini Cooper Cabriolet has been spotted with its roof down. The moderately camouflaged test mule of the ‘Cooper S’ version was spotted testing in Europe, wearing a production-ready body.
While the test mule did sport mild camouflage, it is all a bit unnecessary as the cabriolet is going to be aesthetically identical to its hardtop sibling, apart from the roof. The folding soft-top roof and four-seat cabin of the cabriolet is similar to the previous generation car. The front end of the cabriolet carries over the iconic fascia and the circular chrome-rimmed headlamps from the hardtop model, along with a majority of other styling cues.
Mechanically, the Mini Cooper Cabriolet S is built on the UKL1 front-wheel-drive platform. The Cooper S Cabriolet is powered by a 2.0-litre four-pot turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces 189bhp and 280Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic gearbox, which are the perfect power figures for a hot hatchback.
We can expect the Mini Cooper Cabriolet to be introduced in India a few months after its international launch. The soft-top of the cabriolet might nudge the price tag of the cabriolet by Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, as compared to the standard hard-top version of the car.
