- Both cars made their global debut last year
BMW India is planning to launch the eighth-generation BMW 5 Series on 24 July and will bring in two Mini models as well. The new-gen Cooper S and the Countryman Electric will also be launched on the same day.
The latest iteration of the Mini Cooper made its global debut in September last year. The Cooper C and Cooper S trims are powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 154bhp and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol mill churning 201bhp, respectively. The pure electric version of the Cooper comes in 'Cooper E' and 'Cooper SE' trims with 40.7kWh and 54.2kWh battery packs, respectively.
On the other hand, the Mini Countryman Electric shares its underpinnings with the BMW iX1. Globally, the electric SUV is offered in two variants — E and SE ALL4. Both variants come with a 64.7kWh battery pack, however, the base variant gets a single electric motor and produces 204bhp and 250Nm of torque. The SE trim is more powerful with dual electric motors that churn 313bhp and 493Nm of torque. Conversely, the E trim can cover 461km on a single charge (WLTP cycle), while the SE offers 433km of driving range.
BMW India will launch these refreshed Mini models this coming month and bookings have already begun. Interestingly, the Countryman Electric will make it to the Indian shores for the first time and will be imported as a CBU unit.
