A surge in demand for MG Hector has compelled the company to increase the production capacity by 50 per cent. And to do this, MG Motor will be employing a second shift at its plant next month to deliver 40,000 Hector SUVs. Moreover, the production capacity has been increased to 3,000 units a month from the existing 2,000 units. While the automobile industry is facing a slowdown, MG Motor seems to be unperturbed and is instead witnessing a positive consumer interest for the Hector.
The British brand recently reopened bookings for Hector in India. The company has hiked the prices of the Hector by 2.5 per cent on an average across all variants. However, customers who had booked the Hector in the first phase have been exempted from this price hike. Adding an extra shift also means employing fresh resources and creating more job opportunities, unlike competitors who have been compelled to let go of their temporary workforce. It is also interesting to note that the customers are largely opting for the higher-end variants of the Hector while sales for even the entry-level cars by its competitors has only been plummeting.
In an effort to further strengthen its foothold in the Indian market, MG Motor aims to double the number of its touchpoints in the country, which includes sales outlets and service stations. At present, MG Motor has 120 touchpoints in the country and it plans to expand it to 250 touchpoints by the end of this year. Moreover, the company plans to launch four SUVs in the Indian market within a span of 28 months.
The Hector SUV has been a runaway success for the historic British automaker in India. Since the waiting period had gone up by a few months, MG Motor had announced ‘’Worth the Waiting For’’ programme where the Hector customers gain 1,000 points every week until the vehicle is delivered to them. These points can be redeemed to purchase MG’s range of accessories or it can be spent on the prepaid maintenance packages that were announced at the time of launch. Additionally, MG Motor is contributing towards girl child education using the proceeds from the sales of MG Hector. The company has partnered with IIMPACT, an NGO engaged in providing quality education to the girl child through its learning centres in remote villages across the country. Under the programme, MG Motor India will adopt and support 30 learning centres run by the NGO across India.
