MG Motor India will unveil the internet and connected technologies of the upcoming Hector mid-size SUV in India tomorrow. Similar to the Hyundai Venue, the MG Hector will feature internet capabilities along with many cloud-based services.
MG has partnered with SAP, Cisco and Microsoft to enable the Hector with cloud-based services like real-time traffic info with navigation and car health status and diagnosis. The Hector will come equipped with an eSIM that will enable the mid-size SUV with smartphone-like features. The eSIM will be offered by Unlimit, which is a Reliance Group company. The MG Hector will come with a custom operating system, which will get periodical OTA (over-the-air) updates.
Additionally, MG has also tied-up with US-based Nuance Communications to facilitate voice-based services like making a call, reading text messages and receiving real-time weather forecasts. The company has also partnered with AccuWeather for updates related to climatic conditions. The Hector will get an entertainment package that is developed in association with Gaana.com, while TomTom will offer cloud-based maps. The SUV is also expected to feature AI capabilities.
The MG Hector will be launched in India this summer, mostly in May or June. When launched, the SUV will be available with a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel motor and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill along with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Transmission options will include six-speed manual as well as DCT units. However, it remains to be seen whether the diesel motor will get an automatic at launch.
