MG Motor India officially unveiled the mid-size Hector SUV for the Indian market. The SUV will compete against the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the Mahindra XUV500. To counter the competition, MG has loaded the Hector with features to the gills. Listed below are exclusive first-in-segment features of MG Hector.
1. 10.4-inch HD Touchscreen
The Hector comes with the largest-in-segment 10.4-inch HD touchscreen display. The vertically-stacked unit acts as the command centre to access the fifty-plus iSmart connectivity features. It comes with a built-in satellite navigation system and displays weather updates and much more.
2. iSmart internet connectivity with OTA updates
MG Hector will be the first SUV in its segment to get internet connectivity features with an embedded eSIM. The iSmart system comes with over fifty internet connectivity features along with regular OTA (over-the-air) updates. Additionally, the SUV comes with a dedicated Smartphone app that enables the users to remotely control essential functions switch on/off AC or open sunroof etc.
3. 48V Mild Hybrid System
MG Hector will be the first car in its segment to feature a 48V mild-hybrid system. It will be available only with the 1.5L turbocharged petrol motor as an option. MG Motor India claims that the system provides a 11 per cent reduction in emissions and a 12 per cent increase in fuel economy. The starter generator provides 20Nm of additional torque to counter the initial turbo-lag and offers better acceleration in stop-go traffic.
4. 360-degree camera
Another segment-first feature is the 360-degree camera on MG Hector. It uses multiple cameras to display the bird’s eye view of the SUV and helps in parking the car in tighter places.
5. LED Lighting with dynamic indicators
MG Hector will be the first SUV in its segment to feature LED lighting all around. In essence, the Hector gets LED headlamps, tail lamps and fog lamps as well. Moreover, the DRLs-cum-turn indicators are LEDs as well and receive a dynamic function.
6. Front Parking Sensors
The new safety norms mandate all cars in India to come with rear parking sensors as standard. However, the Hector features front parking sensors as part of the standard safety net. The sensors are a life saver while getting the SUV in and out of tight parking spaces.
7. 3-Point Seatbelts for all Passengers
The Hector features three-point seatbelts for all five passengers in the car. It means, the middle-seat occupant on the second row of seats also gets a three-point belt instead of a lap belt. MG Motor India has integrated the same in the backrest of the middle seat.
8. Powered Front Seat
MG Hector is the only car in its segment to feature powered front seats. While most vehicles in the segment only get an electrically adjustable driver seat, the Hector also gets a four-way adjustable powered passenger seat. That said, the driver seat is six-way adjustable.
9. Ambient Lighting
The Hector features an eight-colour ambient lighting system that allows the passengers to set the cabin light according to their mood. Passengers can select a colour of their choice or use the auto function that changes the colours at a regular interval.
10. Powered Tailgate
The Hector features a powered tailgate with height adjustment. The tailgate is relatively heavy and has a broader opening angle. To counter this, the tailgate gets a height adjustability function, which lets the user set the height and angle of opening to prevent it from scraping in narrow spaces.
11. Heated ORVMs
Another useful feature of the Hector is the heated wing mirrors. The feature improves rearward visibility during rainy and cold weather conditions.
