MG Hector spied testing; will be the first connected SUV in India

MG Motor's first premium mid-size SUV for India was spied testing earlier this week. The SUV is christened as the MG Hector, and will go up against the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Honda CR-V and the recently launched Tata Harrier. The Hector will be the first connected SUV in India, and will bring internet car functionalities.

It is expected to be the most technologically advanced car in its segment and is likely to come with its own operating system. The SUV will be equipped with an e SIM card, with features like biometrics, real-time traffic info and navigation, and AI assistance among others. The company also reveals that the Hector will be the first SUV in India to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates.

The MG Hector will reportedly come with best in segment features like a panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system and AI capabilities. Other important features will include a 360-degree camera, electric parking brake, electrically adjustable front seats, and much more. The car will get LED headlights and tail lamps, and LED DRLs that will double-up as dynamic turn indicators.

The MG Hector will feature a hexagonal honeycomb grille that is connected with LED daytime running lights, a design that is also seen on the Tata Harrier and the Hyundai Kona. Unlike its other siblings from the Baojun, Wuling and Chevrolet’s stables, the front fascia of the Hector will feature twin LED projector headlights. The side profile gets roof rails and a floating roof effect, while the rear section will be largely similar to the Baojun 530.

Powering the MG Hector will be a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel motor and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Both the engines will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission, while the gasoline version is also likely to get a six-speed DCT gearbox. The oil burner currently produces 170 bhp and 350 Nm on the Jeep Compass.
