MG Hector launched, price in India starts at Rs 12.18 lakhs

The MG Hector has been launched in India with prices starting at Rs 12.18 lakhs (Introductory ex-showroom). The British automaker is offering its SUV across three engine options, 11 variants and five colour options. The top-of-the-line Hector is being offered with a host of features like a 10.4-inch display for the touchscreen infotainment system, 7.0-inch MID, hill hold and descent control, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated ORVMs and 360-degree view parking system. MG has dubbed the Hector as India’s first internet car and is offering it with a host of connected services in a suite called iSMART.

Powertrain options include a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor that is available with six-speed manual and DCT gearboxes and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel that’s mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There’s also a 48V hybrid option with the 1.5-litre petrol unit, paired with a six-speed manual. The electric motor comes with engine start/stop function and brake-energy regeneration, and provides an additional boost of 20Nm when required.

The MG Hector is a rival to the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 as well as the Tata Hexa. In terms of sedans, it takes on the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai Elantra. The Hector is the first car from MG and will be followed by the E-ZS electric SUV in December of this year.
