After much ado, the MG Hector mid-size SUV is set for launch in India on 27 June. The development was confirmed to CarWale by our sources close to the company. The Hector is a rival to the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Kia Seltos.
MG Hector will be available in four trims – Style, Super, Smart and Sharp – that will be available across three engine and gearbox options. MG is billing the Hector as India’s first ‘Internet Car’, and it will feature the iSmart connected car technologies with over 50 internet connectivity features.
It will pack quite a few segment-first features too, like a 360-degree surround view camera, 10.4-inch HD touchscreen, 48V mild hybrid system, front parking sensors, ambient lighting, heated ORVMs and much more. The SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 15-20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Powertrain options will include a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor that is available with six-speed manual and DCT gearboxes and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There will also be a 48V hybrid option with the 1.5-litre petrol unit, paired with a six-speed manual. The electric motor comes with engine start/stop function and brake-energy regeneration, and provides an additional boost of 20Nm when required.
