- The second product from MG in India.
- Expected to be launched in India by the end of this year.Â
MG teased the upcoming eZS SUV on their official Facebook page only earlier this week. Now, the carmaker has already gotten busy testing their second product for India as it is rumoured to go on sale as early as the end of 2019. A production prototype sans any camouflage was recently spotted testing on the Baroda highway.Â
The carmaker has confirmed its second product, after the Hector, to be the EZ electric SUV. It is based on the ZS sold in international markets like the UK, China, and some African and European markets as well. Appearance-wise, the eZS will be identical to the conventionally powered model save for few changes around the grille and low-drag alloy wheels. Which means, the eZS will sport projector headlamps, faux skid plats both fore and aft, LED taillights, and roof rails. The charging port for the electric SUV has been placed beneath the MG badge on the grille.Â
The cabin, as seen in spy shots earlier, will carry a single-tone all-black finish with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console. We also know that it will have a three-spoke steering wheel and a silver knob for the round gear lever. In terms of space, the eZS is slightly bigger than the Hyundai Creta and it may have ample cabin room as well. Â
Powering the eZS will be a 110kW electric motor that produces a power output of 150bhp and 350Nm of torque. The motor is fed with a 45.6kWh battery pack which reportedly offers a driving range of about 350kms.
Similar to the Hector, the e-SUV will be built in India to keep the cost in check. However, the powertrain will be imported from SAIC China. When it goes on sale in India, it is expected to be priced around Rs 20-25 lakhs (ex-showroom). This will put it in direct contention with the Hyundai Kona, the only other electric SUV in the segment.Â
