- Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV to debut at 2019 Guangzhou Motor Show
- Engine options could include a 6.0-litre V12 and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 motor
Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the GLS-Class based Maybach SUV will debut on 21 November at the 2019 Guangzhou Motor Show in China. Test-mules of the model have already been spotted during road-tests on numerous occasions.
Design wise, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV will retain the basic silhouette and styling of the second-gen GLS that was revealed earlier this year. Notable changes to differentiate it from the regular GLS model will include a new grille with multiple vertical slats, Maybach logo and a refreshed bumper with new air vents on either side. The side profile could benefit from a new set of alloy wheels while the rear will feature revised exhaust outlets and a chrome trim for the bumper.
Details regarding the interior of the upcoming Mercedes-Maybach GLS remain scarce at the moment although the model is expected to be offered in the four-seat and five-seat format, with the latter being a bench seat and the former being a four individual seat setup. The four-seater variant is likely to be available as standard while the five-seater variant could be offered as an option.
Powertrain options on the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV could include a 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol motor. Transmission duties could be handled by a nine-speed automatic unit. Upon launch, the model will rival against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Bentley Bentayga.
