After making a surprise appearance in deserted Namibia, Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has been officially revealed. The G650 Landaulet marks the end of current generation G-Class and will be exclusively limited to 99 units. The SUV Landaulet will make its public appearance at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
The rear passengers get a separate electrically retractable soft top in the G650 Landaulet. Thanks to the extended wheelbase of the G-Class, the Landaulet measures 5,345mm in length, is 2,235mm tall and has a wheelbase of 3,428mm. The ground clearance of 450mm is courtesy the large 22-inch wheels with portal axles. The Landaulet can be had with three different colours for the fabric top alongside four different paint finishes.
As expected of anything with a Maybach badging, the G650 Landaulet features a lavish interior with an added open-top motoring experience. The passengers at the back get fully-reclining electrically adjustable individual seats with calf rest and special massager. An electrically-operated glass partition between the rear compartment and driver cabin can be changed from transparent to opaque at the press of a button. Also available are thermal cup holders, individual retractable leather-wrapped tables, two glove compartments, and two 10-inch displays in what the manufacturer calls “G cockpit”.
Powering the G650 Landaulet is the same 6.0-litre V12 twin turbo engine found under the hood of the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet. The V12 produces 621bhp and a whopping 1000Nm of torque. All the power is sent to the roads through a 100 per cent differential locks which can be engaged on the move, as well as the low off-road ratio of the transfer case to give the Landaulet its competent off-road credentials.
The German manufacturer hasn’t divulged the pricing of the luxurious Landaulet but it is speculated to be more expensive than the G63 6x6. The G650 Landaulet will be manufactured at Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria and will go on sale later this year.
