Mercedes-Benz has launched the AMG GT R in India at Rs 2.23 crore (all India ex-showroom). In the true German spirit of eking out more from the already powerful, the AMG GT R is a high-performance version of the AMG GT sports car.
The boys from Affalterbach have taken the standard AMG GT and done their magic upon it. This has produced a machine that has taken a spot in the top ten at the Green Hell a.k.a the Nurburgring and closer to home, it has broken the lap record at the Buddh International Circuit by over 2 seconds.
This go-faster ability has been achieved by adding new moveable aero bits that have boosted the car’s ability to stick to the ground. This includes a moveable floor as well as a new diffuser. Adding to this package are bespoke Michelins and rear-wheel steering assist.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has been re-tuned to produce 578bhp/699Nm of torque with power going to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG speed shift transmission. There is every conceivable driving aid including a nine stage traction control which will let you access the car’s abilities at various stages. To match the GT tag, Mercedes has retained all the luxury trimmings like the leather seats, climate control, and touchscreen infotainment system as well a decent boot to carry around some luggage. The performance coupe gets a star compact service package of Rs 92,000 and 1.6 lakhs for three years.
It competes against the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 which is also a car of similar pedigree. This car sits on top of the German automaker’s performance food chain.
