Mercedes-Benz has reiterated their stake at the most luxurious premium sedan in the country with the launch of the all-new 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class in India. Combining luxury, intelligence, technology and craftsmanship together, the S-Class starts at a price tag of Rs 1.33 crores in India and brings in the global benchmark of luxury motoring into the country.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is being officially sold in India for two decades now and has been the highest-selling luxury saloon in the country by a margin. The current generation of the S-Class, the V222, was launched in India in January 2014 and the 2018 Mercedes S-Class sports a new front fascia including a wider grille, sportier front bumper and reworked headlamps. The LED signature has been changed from the single strip to triple strips and it also gets the latest generation of the intelligent Multibeam LED headlamps. The upgrades continue to the profile and to the rear of the car with reworked tail lamps, a new rear bumper and a new set of alloy-wheel designs.
On the inside, the opulence of luxury continues with the wood-panelled dashboard sporting two large TFT screens – one for the infotainment system and the other one for the instrument cluster.
It gets the latest COMAND system with the rotary-fob and the touch-panel along with steering mounted controls for operations. The cabin is wrapped in premium leather and you can choose the colour from the offered palette along with the whole range of optional extras. Among the other new additions is a 64-colour LED ambient light system, a high-quality Burmester music system, heated armrests as well as a specialised Air Balance package which filters the cabin-air and releases the fragrance of choice.
As for the comfort features, the seats are fully adjustable electrically with memory function and it gets four-zone climate control. The electric panoramic sunroof gets an obstruction-sensor and electric roller sun-blinds as well. The heated and adjustable rear seats feature a Hot Stone Massage system. The car also features a Wi-Fi hotspot for internet access when on the move. The car also features an enhanced AIRMATIC suspension for a better ride.
Under the hood, Mercedes-Benz will debut its newly developed six-cylinder inline engine which displaces 2.9 litres and generates 286bhp of power and a whopping 600Nm of torque and will come mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox in the S350d. This is the most powerful diesel engine built by Mercedes-Benz in India and is also the first BSVI engine to be built in the country. Also, it is compatible with the current BSIV fuel as well and will make the transition from BSIV to BSVI in 2020 rather seamless.
The Rs 1.37 crore S 450 is powered by the 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine developing 367bhp of power and 500Nm of torque and will also be mated a seven-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The S-Class remains the global benchmark in safety as well, with the radar-based assist for cruise control, active steering assist, active brake assist and a suite of driver aids that help you harness all the performance and luxury motoring uninhibited.
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered with the Star Ease packages starting from Rs 80,000 to help lower the costs of ownership. Mercedes-Benz also offers one of the widest sales-service networks amongst luxury car makers with their presence in 45 cities across India.
