Mercedes-Benz marked the Indian debut of the new generation GLC luxury SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo. The car will be launched in mid-2016 and its launch will boost the carmaker's SUV offering further. Let's have a look at the detailed pictures of the SUV that will further strengthen the Stuttgart-based carmaker's Indian portfolio.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class was revealed last year and is being promoted as a vehicle that will provide the qualities of the tough GL-Class and the luxury of the C-Class.
This vehicle actually is the next generation GLK-Class but is named GLC according to Mercedes’ new naming and model convention. The GLC tag is due to its close association with C-Class.
It uses the same underpinnings as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and can also be called as the sporty, adventure loving cousin of the four-door sedan.
Upfront, the bold twin-slat grille and sweptback headlamps are strikingly similar to the C-Class. Thankfully, the GLC's design has lost the earlier GLK's boxy stance in favour of an urban appearance.
The GLC measures 4,656mm in length, 2,096mm in width, 1,644mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,874mm. The huge size has given it a commanding presence.
The cabin of the GLC boasts of an interior inspired by the S-Class. It gets a three-spoke steering wheel in two types of designs.
The cabin is also packed with features like a free-standing display and Mercedes' COMAND infotainment system. The boot has a luggage capacity of 550 litres and, with the rear seats folded, 1,600 litres.
There is also a touchpad for navigating through the menu and the ARTICO leather upholstery takes the luxury quotient up to a new level.
Mercedes might power the GLC with a 1,199cc diesel engine to allow it to deal with the ban on diesel vehicles with over 2,000cc engine capacity in Delhi. The transmission duty will be done by the new nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox.
The GLC crossover will be slotted between the entry-level GLA and GLE in Mercedes-Benz's range of cars. It will compete with the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
