German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has revealed the GLB SUV ahead of its debut in the US sometime by the end of this year. The new SUV is available in five-seat and seven-seat options and post-launch, it will be positioned above the GLA and below the GLC in the global lineup. The vehicle will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is based on the MFA II platform and in terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,634mm in length, 1,834mm in width and 1,658mm in height. This makes the GLB about 21mm longer and 20mm taller than the GLC. The SUV has a wheelbase of 2,829mm and a best-in-class headroom of 1,035mm.
Under the hood, the Mercedes GLB gets the GLB 200, a turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol unit that generates 160bhp. The second petrol option, the GLB 250 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates 148bhp. The luxury car manufacturer will also offer two diesel engine options – a 200d which produces 148bhp and 220d 4Matic which produces 188bhp. The smaller petrol unit will get a seven-speed dual-clutch unit, while the rest will get eight-speed automatic.
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLB gets an off-road engineering package, hill-assist, new infotainment system that reads out incline angle, gradient and other technical settings.
