- Misses out on the AMG detailing
- Powered by a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine which produces 284bhp/600Nm
- G-Class gets a diesel option for the first time in India
Post much wait, German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has finally launched the G 350d in India for a price of Rs 1.5 crores (ex-showroom, all India). Essentially a non-AMG variant of the G-Class, the G 350d is powered by a diesel engine and misses out on the AMG detailing.
The new-entry level G-Class in India features a simpler grille and subtle wheel arches as compared to the G63. As for the interior, it gets Artico leather upholstery, quilted stitching, and open-pore wood. The SUV gets a dual-tone beige and black finish that offers trim options for the inserts. Additionally, the vehicle will get a widescreen cockpit with two screens – one for the infotainment system and the other for the instruments.
Mechanically, the Mercedes-Benz G 350d is powered by an OM 656 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, which produces 284bhp of power and 600Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a nine-speed automatic torque converter. It is believed that the SUV is capable of attaining a top speed of 199kmph and sprints from 0-100kmph in about 7.4 seconds.
The SUV gets an all-wheel-drive system with locks for the front and the rear axle along with a central differential. The affordable G-Class has missed out on some of the features as compared to the AMG variant, but then, it stands strong as a potent off-roader with stellar off-road equipment.
