-High performance version of the four-door coupe
-Will be the first AMG53 in India
-3.0-litre straight-6 turbo petrol
-AMG styling kit
The new generation Mercedes-Benz CLS will be launched in India on 16 November and this is expected to be followed by the high performance CLS53 AMG in early 2019. This was the first ever AMG53 model globally and will also be the first AMG53 model for the Indian market.Â
The 53 series of AMG models get an electric auxiliary compressor and a 48V electric system. This tech provides additional boost in terms of torque as well as optimising the start-stop technology available to the cars. The technology has been branded EQ and has more than likely been derived from F1 technology that the German automaker has developed for the hybrid era of the motorsport.
The CLS53 AMG makes use of a 3.0-litre straight-6 petrol that produces 435bhp/520Nm. The electric compressor provides an additional 21bhp and 250Nm. This version gets the AMG speedshift 9G-Tronic and 4MATIC AWD system.
In terms of appearance, the CLS53 makes use of the same cues as the stock car but with AMG styling elements like the badges, wheels, quad exhaust tips and lowered stance. It’s the same story inside but now you get the AMG spec wheel, seats and colour scheme.
The CLS is Mercedes’ answer to the likes of the Porsche Panamera, Maserati Quattroporte and the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. This CLS53 AMG is a rival to the equivalent high performance versions of the same cars.Â
