Mercedes-Benz continues their AMG onslaught in India with the introduction of second AMG-prepped performance vehicle in India. After the mad E63 family performance saloon, the German carmaker went all out with the introduction of the bonkers S63 Coupe. It was launched in the country for the price of Rs 2.55 crores (ex-showroom all-India). It has been positioned one spec down the mighty S65 in the Affalterbach’s line-up.
Under the long hood of the S63 is the AMG powerhouse which also powers the AMG GT. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 punches out 603bhp of power and 900Nm of turning force. This engine replaces the bigger 5.5-litre V8 but produces 26bhp more power. It is mated to a Speedshift nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, channelling the raw power to the rear wheels. The 0-100kmph sprint is accomplished under 3.5 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph but can be pushed to 300kmph with a complimentary AMG driving package.
Appearance wise, the S63 now gets the trademark Panamericana grille as seen on the AMG GT and other AMG models. The headlamps are the latest units, now seen on the rest of the S-Class family. It sits on massive 19-inch stylish alloy wheels as standard. The rear gets sleeker LED tail lights with quad chromed trapezoidal tailpipes. On the inside, the cabin is everything you can expect from a flagship performance coupe. The Nappa leather upholstery is standard. It is wrapped around sporty bucket seats as well as on the centre console and door pads. The dash is dominated by the new MUBX infotainment system which is integrated into the wide fully-digital screen. Needless to say, other creature comforts like the climate control, sunroof, heated and ventilated seats are present along with safety and driver’s aids.
The S63 is the most opulent performance coupe this side of supercar territory. In India, it can be a Three-Pointed alternative to other luxury-performance coupes like the Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Maserati GranTurismo. At its price point, one can also opt for some of the most comfortable and capable SUVs available in India like the Range Rover, Lexus LX, or even the Mercedes’ own G63 AMG. However, the S63 Coupe has the perfect balance of luxury and performance which not many other cars can boast about.
