Mercedes-AMG has recently brought something that is very powerful and greener and meaner to the Indian market. It instantly grabbed the limelight by becoming the fastest production car to lap the Buddh International Circuit in just 2.09.853 minutes. No points in guessing, that we are talking about the GT R! Take a look at the pictures of this sports car at the launch event in Delhi.
Mercedes-Benz India launched the GT R at Rs 2.23 crore (ex-showroom pan India). This right-hand-drive unit is manufactured at the company’s plant in Affalterbach, Germany.
The carmaker has introduced the sportscar in the signature ‘Green Hell Magno’ paint job. This colour pays homage to the iconic Nürburgring race track.
The sports car gets active flaps underneath, which were specially developed on a computer simulation. These were then tested in a wind tunnel and honed on the Nürburgring.
The AMG GT R was first unveiled last year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine producing 577hp of power and 700Nm of torque.
All these angry horses are controlled by an electronic differential operating at the rear axle. The transmission duty is done by a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is quick enough to do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.6 seconds. It's also capable of doing speeds up to 318kmph.
The stability control has three settings including completely switching it off! Not something that we would recommend though. Unless you have the courage, and of course the skills, to control this beast.
That racing car-like knob in the middle of the dashboard looks kind of odd. But of course, it has a purpose. You can set nine levels of intervention for traction control through this knob.
Active rear-wheel steering is the highlight as the GT R is the first AMG car to get it. Other highlights include a large rear aerofoil and a new rear fascia.
AMG ride control sports suspension, carbon-fibre roof and twin-spoke lightweight alloys further add to the racing performance of the car.
