> Mercedes may introduce the updated AMG GT at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show
> There is some black tape masking the front fender portion which usually displays the ‘V8 BITURBO’ badge - a sure-shot sign that a different logo may be present underneath.
Amidst preparations for a track, road and ‘Black Series’ versions of the Mercedes-AMG GT, our spy photographers have now spotted, for the first time, what looks to be a cheaper iteration of the GT.
The white prototype seen in the pictures is expected to feature the same electrified power-plant as the E 53 and CLS 53. So, what gave this prototype’s identity away? Well for one, you can clearly spot the four round exhausts exiting the rear bumper - similar to those on the E 53 and CLS 53.
Unlike the regular AMG GT’s 4.0-litre V8 powertrain, the motor in question here is a smaller inline-six 3.0-litre turbocharged motor that works in tandem with an electric motor to generate a total output of about 435bhp/520Nm (in the 53-badged models). However, for this avatar, we’d ideally expect AMG to flap their magical wand to bestow more power on it.
We shall bring you more news on Mercedes-AMG’s base model GT in time to come, so stay tuned.
