Earlier this year, German luxury car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, launched the S-Class facelift and the GLS Grand edition in India. This time around, it is the performance focused Mercedes-AMG E63 S which is set to leave a mark in the Indian market. The car had made its official debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show. Here below are the highlights for the newly launched Mercedes-AMG E63 S –
Exterior
Based on its relatively humble sibling, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the E63 S is not the one for the weak hearted. Offered as a powerful version of its executive sedan, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S gets a single slat grille, sporty front bumper with larger air intakes and a sporty exhaust setup at the rear. The car sits on matte-black AMG 20-inch alloy wheels and it gets slightly larger wheel arches than the standard model.
Engine
Well, this is the interesting part! The Mercedes-AMG E63 S gets the powerful 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that generates a massive 603bhp of power and 850Nm of torque. The powerful engine comes mated to a nine-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and is offered with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The beast is capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in just 3.4-seconds! The car’s top speed is restricted to 249kmph, however, with the AMG Driver's package, the AMG E 63 S can do speeds in excess of 300kmph. Good things don’t end here, you also have the ‘Drift Mode’ which turns the car into a rear wheel vehicle. You get to burn some rubber till the time you decide to turn off the Drift Mode. If that doesn’t interest you, then switch on the Race Drive Mode; this will turn off the stability control and activate the transmission’s manual mode.
Interior
Germans have always been known for offering top notch interior. The vehicle gets suede leather upholstery and premium materials to stand by its three-pointed stars legacy. On the dashboard, the vehicle gets twin LCD screens – one for instrument cluster and other for the infotainment system paired with the Meriden audio system.
Competition
The newly launched Mercedes-AMG E63 S competes against the likes of the BMW M5 and the Audi RS7.
