An updated version of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has been spotted on test in Europe. The current SL (R231) was launched in 2012 and this would be the first facelift for the model.
The spy pictures suggest the changes would be subtle with revisions to the front bumper, headlights, bonnet and the grille. Although, we don't have a picture of the rear there might be minor revisions to the boot-lid and the tail lights too.
Mechanically, the updated SL will retain the same engine as the current model which also gets a new variant SL400. The hotter AMG-spec models will also make it to the market with the new range of bi-turbo engines. In its more powerful sinister guise the SL will be available in SL63 and SL65 AMG trims.
The SL has a rich heritage and the name has been in usage since 1954. Some of the famous people who have owned an SL include Steve Jobs (Apple) and Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame. The SL, thus is an important product for Mercedes and will play a vital role in the company's target to increase the sales of the AMG range.
