- Design changes and new tech will be on offer
- Features from the new E-Class will debut on the facelifted model
The current-gen Mercedes S-Class has been around since 2020. Usually, Mercedes comes up with a facelift after four years, but we haven't seen any prototypes of the facelift, until a few weeks ago inside Mercedes’ research and development department. More recently, our spies caught the car again, this time around managing to get much closer.
Mercedes has announced that every future model series will have a pillar-to-pillar display. In other words, an infotainment display (at least as an option) that extends from the left A-pillar to the right A-pillar. It will also be available as an option for the S-Class. The buyer will then have the choice between a large decorative element and a kind of MBUX super screen like in the new E-Class.
Improved ADAS
Autonomous driving capabilities with level three will be increased to 90kmph at the end of 2024. However, higher speeds will no longer be possible with the current generation 5 hardware. Due to the higher speeds, the camera must have a higher resolution so that it can see further. In addition, the data from the radar, lidar and camera must be analyzed more quickly. This will only be possible with generation 6. That said, the existing vehicles currently being delivered in Germany will also receive an OTA update in 2024 and will therefore be able to drive at 90kmph at level three instead of 60 kmph.
Other Updates
The S-Class already received a powertrain update in the middle of 2023. As for the rest of the package, not much will change in terms of the exterior appearance. The S-Class Maybach will presumably have the small MM as on the top of the GLS 600 Maybach. In addition, the radiator grille of the S-Class and the S-Class Maybach will be illuminated like on the new E-Class.
