Mercedes has introduced the A 180 CDI ECO SE and B 180 CDI ECO SE in UK which will offer good fuel efficiency and cut down on the emissions. On the contrary, the A class and B class will get the not so fuel efficient but better handling 4MATIC all-wheel drive (AWD) system as an option.
Both the ECO SE cars propose to give a better fuel economy and also cutting down on CO2 emissions to about 92 g/km. The carmaker claims to have not made any compromise in terms of performance by introducing weight reducing techniques, refinements to the powertrain and revised aerodynamics in the vehicles. In that perspective the cars get a lighter fuel tank, underbody paneling, a lowered suspension, manual transmissions with longer ratios in higher gears and a new aerodynamic grille. The cars will be available from January 2014.
Mercedes also has announced the A and B class to receive the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system which assures better traction control and improves the driving capabilities of the vehicles in any road conditions. This system was first seen in the carmaker’s CLA 250 4MATIC which provides full variable distribution of the drive torque between axles. The A class 250 4MATIC will be available in two trims- AMG Sport and Engineered By AMG trim. The B class 220 4MATIC will be available in the Sport trim.
The A 180 CDI ECO SE and B 180 CDI ECO SE are available now for a price of £21,965 (Rs 22.20 Lakh) and £22,950 (Rs 23.19 lakh) respectively. The AMG Sport trim for A 250 4 MATIC is available from £28,985 (Rs 29.29 lakh) onwards and the Engineered by AMG trim will sell for £30,905 (Rs 31.24 lakh). The B 220 4Matic is priced from £28,135 (Rs 28.44 lakh) onwards.
