Mercedes plans to introduce cheaper AMG models in the A-Class line up

If you have always loved Mercedes-Benz but wished for a more sportier character, AMG was the word you looked for. The AMG badge is worn by sportier, tuned Mercedes-Benz vehicles which offer more power and better handling compared to its standard variants. Recently, Mercedes confirmed their plans to introduce entry level AMG cars which will sit below the current A-Class AMG line up.

Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that there will be two new AMG variants in the A-Class line up in the coming future. The Mercedes-AMG A45, GLA45 and CLA45 will be joined by entry level performance variants as the brand's two-tier performance car strategy.

Speaking at the Nurburgring 24hr endurance race, Moers said “Mercedes-AMG will complement our successful 45 models by offering two versions, like we do with our larger cars". This hints at the two performance cars on offer in the C-Class, C-43 and C-63. Where the C-63 gets a bhp grinding V8 the C-43 is powered by a fairly potent V6, both with the AMG batch.

It is likely that the smaller AMG engines will also be produced by AMG at Affalterbach with the other V6s, V8s and V12s. The smaller engines are expected to be the same in-line four turbocharged units but offering enough oomph to live up to the AMG badge.

The next generation A-Class is due launch next year with newer and smaller engine options which will make place for the mentioned lower variant AMG trims levels.

The entry level AMG A-class series is expected to be cheaper than the current Mercedes-AMG A45, GLA45 and CLA45. The lesser variants of the A-Class AMG could rival with Volkswagen Golf R, Ford Focus RS, and Renault Megane RS when launched in the European markets.
