Mercedes is reportedly developing an all-new concept car to demonstrate the next step in automotive safety. It has been pipped to be ready by the end of this year and is aimed at making Mercedes cars ‘uncrashable’. And it will be achieved by employing all the existing safety technology with the addition on artificial intelligence, machine learning and a centralised system that will keep getting smarter.
At the plinth of this technology is the simple fact that more than 90 per cent of car accidents are due to human error. So, if you think that none of these Mercs will ever crash, you are wrong. But, since all the crashes will be recorded on that centralised system, the new tech will be able to analyse the reason of the accident and will be able to compute a counter manoeuvre to avoid it. And this solution will be relayed to every Merc on that platform making the learnings available for everyone.
This is Mercedes’ big step toward attaining the goal of uncompromised autonomous driving as well as providing drivers with a comprehensive assistance program to ensure occupant safety as much as possible. Since nearly all the modern Mercedes cars now come with a connected program, the machine learning process and the development of the artificial intelligence would already be underway to establish a strong platform for the technology to build upon.
