Mercedes-Benz has dropped a teaser of the second car in the Mercedes-Maybach lineup ahead of its global debut at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show. It is based on the Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet which was launched in India recently. The uber-luxurious cabriolet will sit alongside the existing Mercedes-Maybach S600 saloon in the company’s portfolio.
Limited to only 300 units as suggested by the plaque in the interior shown in the teaser video, the S650 Cabriolet will carry the essence of the Maybach saloon sans door and the roof. Of what’s revealed in the teaser video, we get to know that this lavish drop-top gets chrome garnishes on the front air intakes, a bespoke Maybach treatment on the interior trim, specially designed alloy wheels, a Burmester sound system, and Maybach badging everywhere. The Maybach has always been known for offering utmost luxury and comfort to its occupants and the S650 Cabriolet will undoubtedly be no less.
Although the Maybach S600 saloon makes use of the extended wheelbase of the standard S-Class, it appears that the S650 Cabriolet retains the standard S-Class Convertible’s wheelbase. Then there’s question of what will power this luxurious Cabrio. The S650's designation indicates an up tuned twin turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine under the hood. So that will put out more than 530bhp and 830Nm which is the case with the standard car. The S65 AMG Cabriolet featuring a twin-turbo V-12 makes 620bhp and 1000Nm of torque, and we could expect something similar from the S650 Cabriolet.
No further details are released by Mercedes. The German manufacturer has taken up the S-Class mantle and introduced it in many body styles, such as the landaulet, cabriolet, limo, coupe, and Pullman all these years. So the Mercedes-Maybach S650 will become the most expensive and exclusive cabriolet money can buy and it will be available in India.
