Mercedes Benz has lifted the covers off the latest avatar of its best-selling SUV the G-class (also known as the G Wagon) for the UK market. The butch looking off-roader has retained its boxy no-nonsense looks, tough stance and off-roader appearance but is a completely new car underneath.
Revisions to the body include daytime running lights to keep up with the times, new 18-inch alloys and redesigned mirrors. In the range the base G350, which is fitted with the bluetec system, comes with a 211bhp 3.0-litre V-6 diesel engines and added safety featured apart from better efficiency.
The top of the line G63 and G65 AMG have been fitted with a 5.5 litre bi-turbo engine and 6.0-litre bi-turbo engines that churn out 536hp and 612hp respectively. These models feature all the usual AMG styling cues which include start/stop system and for the first time an optional extra, 20-inch wheels, along with jaw dropping performance that is associated with the brand.
However, the main focus of German luxury car maker in this avatar of the G-Class has been on the interiors. The front and rear seats have been fitted with a different type of leather and are now heated. The interface is now a Command online system. Other new updates include the Parktronic parking aid, Harman Kardon sound system and colour display for the instrument cluster.
The base model will cost 82,495 GBP (Rs 70,85,842) while for the top-line models priced at 123,115 GBP (Rs 1,057,2623.74). Mercedes offers the G-Class in India on order as CBU (Completely Built Unit) and this new model will certainly be offered here.
