Mercedes-Benz UK has just made its SLC roadster range more accessible with the launch of a new entry-level offering. Labelled SLC 180, this new base variant is priced from £32,039 (Rs 26.75 lakh) on-road.
Given its entry-level status, the SLC 180 isn’t powered by some big V6 motor but a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit which allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 7.9 seconds. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard whereas the 9-speed automatic gearbox is an optional extra.
In the AMG Line spec, the SLC 180 comes as a standard feature with 18-inch alloy wheels, Artico seats, active brake assist, cruise control, air conditioning, sports suspension and brakes. Besides introducing the entry-level model, Mercedes UK has also announced that the Sport model line has been discontinued to make the range even simpler, with the AMG Line being the only option now.
It seems that Mercedes has Mazda MX-5 and other affordable convertibles in its sight and with the new SLC 180, the brand is eyeing at a bigger share of the convertible market that witnesses strong sales across certain European markets.
