Three months after its official launch in the Indian market, Mercedes-Benz India has rolled out the locally assembled version of the C 220 CDI. The diesel-powered luxury sedan is now being put together at Mercedes’ Chakan facility near Pune.
Mercedes India says it has now upped the localisation content in the C 220 CDI to 60 per cent. The first of the vehicles was rolled out of the assembly line by Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India.
“We are delighted that the ‘World Car of the Year’, the new C-Class, will now be ‘Made in India’ at our world class production facility, here in Pune. We are glad to commence the local production of the C 220 CDI and are confident that we will be able to cater to the increasing demand of this world winner for our discerning customers. The local production of the new C 220 CDI will continue the sedan’s success story in the Indian market.”, Mr Kern commented on the local assembly of this new model.
The 4-cylinder diesel engine in the C 220 CDI is claimed to be the most fuel efficient in the segment with a fuel efficiency of 19.27 kmpl. The engine also boasts of the ECO start/stop function which helps in saving fuel.
