The Mercedes GLE Coupe has been spotted undergoing test runs by the road transport department of Malaysia in Putrajaya. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is expected to launch the SUV next year after which the GLE Coupe may come to India.
The GLE Coupe is based on the GLE SUV (previously known as the ML) but with a sloping roof like a coupe. The GLE 400 Coupe that was spotted testing houses a 333bhp 3.0-litre bi-turbo V6 petrol engine that also develops 480Nm of torque mated to a 9-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. It also gets the 4matic four-wheel-drive system as standard. The car spotted in Malaysia has an AMG body kit evident from the side slats on the rear bumper.
Expected to be launched in the first quarter of the next year in Malaysia, it should reach Indian shores by the end of the first half if we go by the trend set by the C-Class which had come to India within three months of the Malaysian launch. That makes us think, the GLE Coupe will certainly be a part of the Mercedes-Benz stand at the Auto Expo ’16 in Delhi, India.
