Having made its online debut recently, the Mercedes-Benz GLE is set to make its public debut at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show early next month. But prior to the big unveiling, the sporty crossover has been spotted in public thanks to a Mercedes specialist blog.
The GLE coupe will be launched sometime next year. It will be available in both diesel and petrol models with power output ranging between 258bhp and 367bhp. The top-of-the-range model namely the GLE 450 AMG will represent the AMG performance line.
In addition to the DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control system, the Sports Direct-Steer system and the driver assistance systems typical of Mercedes, the GLE 450 AMG will also get the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive as standard.
When launched, the new GLE will join the existing range of SUVs from Mercedes-Benz including the GLA, GLC, ML, GL and the G-Wagon. Up till now only BMW made an SUV with a coupe like sloping roofline – the X6. With the new GLE, Mercedes, too, will soon join the fray to cater to this niche market.
