The Mercedes 6x6 pickup took everyone by surprise and the G-Wagen became hugely popular. But the 6x6 is very expensive and difficult to get. So Mercedes is building another truck – the G500 4x42 pickup with one axle less, but exactly the same madness.
Like the G500 4x42, the pickup might also get the 4.0-litre bi-turbocharged V8 from the AMG GT. In this case though, the horsepower might be limited to under 450bhp. The wheelbase is certainly longer than the standard G-Wagen but not as long as the 6x6. Luxurious cabin, features and comfort are a given for this lifestyle SUV.
With the twin cabs, the G500 4x42 looks exactly like a baby 6x6 that took the world by a storm with its three-axle, six-wheel monstrosity. The G500 pickup will sit high at a 450mm ground clearance and water wading ability of a 1000mm. The spy shots reveal 22 inch rims and the pickup should continue getting the dual coil and damper struts with adjustable damping.
Mercedes is already working in on the new generation of the iconic G-Wagen. While the new G is at least a couple of years away, the G-Wagen lovers will get to lay their hands on a new pickup truck expected to be launched before end of 2017.
