A whole new Concept from Mercedes-Benz will make a debut on 12 September at the Frankfurt Auto Show. As the name suggests – the EQ A car, is expected to be an all-electric entry level offering positioned alongside the A-class. We believe that the ‘Concept EQ A’ is inspired by the ‘Generation EQ’ which was showcased last year in Paris.
The teaser image shows that the concept car has a single bar grille and an illuminated Mercedes logo. The concept car is also equipped with distinctive headlamp assembly – speculated to be a full LED unit. The EQ A could be based around Mercedes-Benz's new modular electric architecture (MEA) platform.
If the “EQ” term sounds very alien to you, that’s because it is Mercedes-Benz’s new nomenclature for electrified vehicles, just like BMW’s i sub-brand and Audi's e-tron. The EQ A is expected to be one of the first and it could arrive as early as 2019. Reports suggest that the EQ A will likely be followed by the EQ C or the EQ C-crossover. Trademark registrations also suggest that Mercedes will introduce the E-class and the S-class models under the EQ moniker in due course of time.
After its launch in the international market, the EQ A could directly rival against the BMW i3.
