Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to unveil a new electric hatchback concept. The German manufacturer will use Frankfurt Motor Show’s stage to showcase its new creation.
The company had established a new EQ electric sub-brand and this hatchback will be the first EQ vehicle. There’s very little known about this car but reports suggest that it would be called the EQ A. It will be built on the company’s MEA platform and will accommodate five passengers. This entry-level electric model is being developed to take on the BMW i3 and upcoming Volkswagen ID. It is also the first EV to be developed by Mercedes-Benz as a part of its 10 EV launch by 2025.
The EQ A is expected to use the same design language as the EQ Concept, which was revealed last year. In terms of performance, the EQ A might get a single electric motor that powers the front wheels. Later on, the German automaker might offer the option of a rear electric motor as well to make it an all-wheel drive. This EV will reportedly go on sale in 2020 and will cost around £35,000 (Rs 29 lakh).
