Mercedes Benz India unveiled their smallest AMG to be offered in India till date, the CLA45 AMG, at the Auto Expo 2014. The CLA 45 AMG adds to the current line-up of AMGs that includes the C63, E63, G63, SLK55 and the SLS AMG. The bookings are expected to open around April for a price tag over one crore rupees.
The CLA 45 AMG is based on the CLA class and has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. In spite of such a puny engine, AMG engineers have been able to extract an output of 180 bhp per litre of displacement which has become a global benchmark for performance tuned engines. The engine develops 360 bhp power and a whopping 450Nm of torque that propels the CLA45 AMG from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds while the top-speed is electronically restricted at 250 kmph with and option of unlocking it up to 250 kmph the AMG Driver’s package. Other highlights include the gravity-die sandcast all-aluminium crankcase, weight-optimised crank assembly with forged steel crankshaft and forged pistons.
The front fascia carries the lines of the A-class while the silhouette of the car from the sides resembles a couple. Globally, the CLA sits between the A-class/B-class and the C-class in terms of size. We believe that Mercedes Benz will gauge the response to the CLA45 AMG in India and bring the CLA into the mainstream by the end of the year 2014.
