With the arrival of the new AMG GT range, Mercedes-AMG is moving into a new segment of agile, high-performance sports cars. As the second ever model to be developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG after the famous SLS AMG, the GT carries forward the same brutish charm that made the SLS so appealing in the first place.
Scheduled to launch in April this year, the AMG GT S model will have a base price of $129,900 (Rs 79.97 lakh). Add a few optional extras to the list and the pricing can easily be bumped up to Rs 1 crore. Nevertheless, standard features on the AMG GT S include Nappa leather, keyless entry, COMAND infotainment system, Collision Prevention Assist PLUS, Parktronic, eight airbags, and a Burmester surround sound system.
Under the hood, the GT S is powered by a 4-litre, bi-turbo V8 engine that develops 503bhp of power allowing the car to accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 3.7 seconds. The base GT version will arrive at a later stage with 456bhp and 0-100 time of 3.9 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz India has a long product line-up in store for 2015 which includes the AMG GT. One can expect this high-performance sports car to arrive by the end of the year to rival the likes of Audi R8 and the Porsche 911.
