Mercedes-Benz has just introduced a host of updates for the G-Class. The burly looking off-roader has been made more efficient and appealing, thanks to improved fuel efficiency and more features as standard across the range. Mercedes has even introduced a new 4-litre biturbo V8 engine for the updated G-Class.
The new 8-cylinder power-plant in the G500 version is based on the new generation of AMG V8 engines that are already featured in the AMG GT and the latest-gen C63 AMG. For the G-Class, the V8 has been modified to deliver 422bhp of power and 610Nm of torque. Highlighting features on this V8 include two turbochargers, which instead of being configured on the outside of the cylinder banks are arranged between them. This layout allows a compact design, optimal response and low exhaust emissions.
The lower G350d version is now more powerful than before, with 245bhp and 600Nm on top. This results in an improved 0-100 kmph sprint time of 8.9 seconds. The range-topping AMG models, meanwhile, also gets a power boost with the G63 now delivering 571bhp and 760Nm. The G65, on the other hand, now has 630bhp instead of 612bhp with a peak torque of 1000Nm. Mercedes-Benz India currently sells the latter and is expected to bring in the updated G63 AMG soon.
