Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will unveil the GLC crossover on June 17. In essence, the next generation GLK, this new SUV will be produced for both RHD and LHD markets for the first time. In the run up to the unveiling, Mercedes has released some preliminary details with regards to the mechanicals of the vehicle.
We have already seen the car with almost no camouflage and have quite a good idea of what the external design will be like. Under Mercedes-Benz’s new naming convention, the GLC is basically the SUV model of the C-Class range and so has the same cabin and feature list as the sedan.
The mechanical feature list that the German automaker has revealed for the GLC includes Air Body Control, Dynamic Select and permanent 4MATIC AWD system. The company also says that the engines powering this vehicle will be 19 per cent more fuel efficient than the ones in the outgoing models.
The Stuttgart-based automaker has also revealed a GLC coupe which will be shown in production form next year. Like the GLE coupe has been created to rival the BMW X6, this smaller vehicle has been created to rival the BMW X4.
Now the bigger question, when will we get the GLC in India? We believe that the German automaker will bring the SUV to the Indian market a few months after it has been launched in Europe. In all probability they will locally assemble it now that the production capacity at the Pune plant has been expanded.
