Mercedes-Benz has decided to pull out of the German touring car championship better known as DTM. The German carmaker has confirmed that it has its eyes set on Formula E, the upcoming formula series for electric car racing.
Mercedes’ announcement of its plans to move to Formula E comes right after BMW announced its decision to join the e-fold. Audi, which completes the German trinity, has been one of the pioneering participants in Formula E and Mercedes will look forward to continuing the famous rivalry.
With Mercedes’ EQ series of electric cars arriving by 2019-2020, its foray into Formula E will help build its credibility as well as the EQ brand. The Mercedes EQ range will consist of an SUV and a mid-size sedan to begin with, besides more products planned for the future.
