Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will offer an illuminated three-pointed star across a range of models in its line-up. Forever, a symbol of luxury motoring, the star has proudly sat on the bonnet or in the grille for many generations of the German automaker’s vehicles and has been a defining feature of the automaker. The move to illuminate the logo is expected to go down very with Mercedes-Benz fans and owners all around the world.
The illumination takes place courtesy of LED lights and light tubes installed behind logo. It comes on when the car is unlocked using the key fob (40 seconds) or when the doors are opened (five minutes). However, there is no clarification on whether the system can be switched off at will.
At present it is being done at the dealer level and is being offered with a number of the German automaker’s models including the 2012 M-Class, 2013 GL-Class and the 2014 E-Class. It expected to soon be offered on the German automaker’s other models and will most likely become a factory fitted option in the future.
Now, the biggest question- will Mercedes-Benz India offer this options to its customers? The answer is yes, for the simple reason that the Indian buyer has a large affinity for things shiny and bright and this should sit right up there on the accessory list of every Mercedes-Benz owner.
