One of the best luxury cars money can buy, the Mercedes-Benz S500 is set tobe launched tomorrow. Unveiled at an event in May last year, the sedan will be imported directly from Germany as a CBU and is expected to cost around Rs 1.25 crore.
The 2014 S-Class or the W222 has undergone significant changes. On the front of the car is a new grille, redesigned bumpers, full LED headlights as well as LED fog lamps. The side profile reveals aerodynamically chiseled body lines or the ‘dropping line’, as the German automaker calls it along with a swooping roof. Inside, the traditional instrument cluster has been ditched for two large colour displays coupled with a new two-spoke wooden steering wheel. Mercedes has never skimped on the feature-list of the S-Class, and this flagship continues to get all the creature-comforts that Mercedes-Benz has dreamt of. Prominent among the latest additions are LED ambient lights, a high-quality Burmester music system, heated and adjustable rear seats and armrests as well as a specialised air balance package which filters the air in the cabin and sprays a special scent branded by Mercedes themselves. As an optional extra, the customer can also opt for an individually customisable ‘first class rear’ business package.
The S500 will be propelled by a 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8 engine that produces 460bhp and 700Nm of torque, synchronised to a 7G-Tronic plus box. Mercedes will launch the S350 CDi with a 3.6-litre diesel engine later this year and it will be priced around Rs 90 lakh. As the S500 will be imported in limited numbers, we can expect the S350 to sell more than its sibling.
We will be bringing you live updates from the launch so stay tuned to CarWale for all the details.
