Mercedes-Benz is going to launch the S 63 AMG sedan in India on August 11. This latest addition to the AMG range of performance cars is a highly customised and more powerful version of the Mercedes-Benz’s flagship sedan, which will be imported to the country as a completely built unit (CBU).
Cosmetically, the S 63 AMG retains the sober flowing lines and rounded look of the standard W222 S-Class saloon. The front gets the instantly recognisable wide chrome-embellished grille with a single horizontal slat and the three-pointed star, which gives it the elegant look of a Mercedes-Benz sedan. However, the aggressive front and rear bumpers with splitters, special spec alloy-wheels and black roof give the car a mean look, befitting an AMG car.
Just like its two-door sibling, the S 63 AMG Coupe, the S 63 AMG packs a 5.5-litre biturbo V8 engine which is mated to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission. This engine puts out 577bhp and a monstrous 900Nm of torque, which make it one of the most powerful sedans available in India. Though the German manufacturer offers the 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system in some global markets, we expect the Indian-spec car to be offered only with rear-wheel-drive. The S 63 AMG comes with AMG high-performance braking system to offer adequate stopping power and an adaptive suspension to offer sporty handling dynamics.
The S 63 AMG competes with other performance saloons like the Jaguar XJL 5.0 V8, BMW 760Li, Audi A8L W12 and the Maserati Quattroporte GTS. We can expect it to sport an ex-showroom price tag in the range of Rs 2.3 crore.
