Taking a step towards its ‘15 in 15’ approach, Mercedes-Benz is going to launch the G 63 AMG in the Indian market tomorrow. Offered in a unique ‘crazy color’ paint scheme, the G63 AMG is a niche performance-oriented SUV which happens to be the German manufacturer’s longest serving vehicle to be in series production.
Despite being a truly modern SUV, the G63 AMG is heavily influenced by the original G Wagon from the 1980s. The discreet modifications in design and styling give the boxy SUV a contemporary look, despite its old-school character. Equipped with a luxurious interior, a new infotainment system and enhanced safety features, the new G63 AMG is one of the most luxurious and premium SUVs you can buy in India.
Powering the G63 AMG is a 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine, which delivers 536bhp and a maximum torque of 760Nm. Despite putting out these kinds of power figures, this engine is 13 per cent more efficient than its previous iteration. The 4MATIC permanent all-wheel-drive system sends the power to all four wheels through an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The AMG Sports chassis gets revised suspension settings to offer more dynamic handling characteristics and a comfortable ride.
We expect the G63 AMG to be launched with a price tag in the range of Rs 2 crore, which makes it one of the most expensive SUVs in the country. Being a niche vehicle, the G63 AMG doesn’t really have any competition in the Indian market, though for this kind of money, you can also buy a Porsche Cayenne Turbo or a Range Rover Sport Autobiography.
