Mercedes-Benz is all set to add the E220d to its E-Class line-up in India tomorrow. While this iteration will get the 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder diesel motor that makes 194bhp and 400Nm of torque, it will use the 9G-TRONIC gearbox for transmission duties.
Mercedes could equip the new E220d on the same lines as the E200 petrol as this could help it sport a price tag of under Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The brand basically looks to plug the current Rs 13 lakh price gap between the E200 and the E350d with the upcoming E220d. This could turn out to be an attractive proposition for those who didn’t require the top-end diesel 350d version with the higher price tag.
In essence, the E-Class is the longest saloon in its segment, and this translates into lots of space for the occupants. On the outside, it borrows heavily from the design cues of the S-Class and the C-Class saloons. Stay tuned for more information and pricing of the new E220d when it is announced tomorrow.
