Mercedes-Benz has announced that the 2013 model GL will be launched in the Indian market on May 16. The new GL is an improvement over the current model rather than an all-new car, but the looks have changed substantially; it now resembles the current M-Class, and daytime driving lights have been added to the front.
The 2013 GL350 CDI is 90kg lighter than the current model, and is also 20 per cent more fuel efficient in the European driving cycle, despite higher power and torque figures. This should no doubt make customers happy. It also has on the options list surround view, which utilises four cameras mounted around the car to give a 360 degreee view to the driver via the screen in the dashboard. The third row of seats is folded or brought up electrically as standard, which is a good addition.
There are also other changes like the electrically-assisted steering, electric parking brake and our favourite - an optional audio system from Bang & Olufsen with a total output of 1200W from 14 speakers.
The price of the new GL will be more than the current one, of course, but for the exact figure we'll just have to wait for the launch.
