Earlier in June this year, German automaker Mercedes-Benz introduced the GLC in India via the CBU route and priced it at Rs 55.7 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). This time around, citing the product’s success in India, the automaker has decided to localise the GLC production. This will mean that the vehicle will be priced much lower and could be well under Rs 50 lakh.
The made-in-India Mercedes Benz GLC will be officially launched on September 29. Mercedes-Benz offers the GLC with a set of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine which generates 245bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque and 170bhp and 400Nm of peak torque, respectively. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,656mm in length, 2,096 mm in width and 1,644mm in height. The GLC boasts a boot space of 550litres and has a wheelbase measuring 2,874mm long.
The import GLC model has received a five star rating by Euro NCAP and it is to be seen if the India-made model will also get similar safety features. The sharp drop in prices will help Mercedes-Benz GLC have a sharp edge over its rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 in India. More details about India-made model will be known at a later date.
