Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLA-Class crossover for the Indian market tomorrow. It will available with two engine options as well as a special launch edition. The India-spec model was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo and has been spotted testing on multiple occasions in the country. The GLA will be offered with a choice of two engines – a 1.6-litre petrol and a 2.1-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine has an output of 156bhp and 250Nm of torque, the diesel mill produces 135bhp and 300Nm of torque. Both engines have been mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with paddle shifters.
The GLA is expected to be equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, auto-on wipers, front and rear parking sensors with active parking assist. It gets nine airbags, satnav, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, dual-zone climate control, reversing camera, a six-speaker audio system.
The GLA is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh and will compete with the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. This is expected to be followed by the GLA45 AMG which will be launched next month.
