Mercedes-Benz will launch a special edition of the A-Class and B-Class called the Edition 1 tomorrow. The German automaker launched the B-Class to the Indian market in late 2012 and then launched A-Class in May of last year. While both vehicles in their diesel avatar have been a major success for the three-pointed star, there were many complaints of missing features and most importantly low ground clearance for both cars which we expect to be rectified in these models.
The A-Class and B-Class Edition 1 are expected to get revised ground clearance, electric seat control for the passenger seat, rear arm rest, updated Comand interface, new alloy wheels and most probably an AMG-spec body kit with Edition-1 badges and decal. These were the same kind of changes Mercedes introduced with C-Class Grand Edition when it was launched last year.
We expect that both the vehicles will continue with the 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 109bhp/250Nm of torque as well as the 2.0-litre petrol unit that produces122bhp/200Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via the 7 G-Tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox.
The A-Class and B-Class Edition 1 are expected to be priced slightly higher than the standard car and will mostly retail in limited numbers. There is also a possibility that Mercedes-Benz may announce the date of when it will begin local production of these models in their standard form.
